Thruxton BSB: Cooper victorious in Stock 1000 race

Bennetts Suzuki’s Richard Cooper won a four-way scrap in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race, after a move on the last lap meant that he snatched the win from Adam Jenkinson.

The maximum points haul for Cooper today means that he has closed the gap to leader, Morello Racing’s Danny Buchan to 20 points in the overall standings. Buchan ended the race in third, ahead of veteran racer,
Michael Rutter.

There was a red flag initially during the race and it had to be stopped after a crash involving the two True Heroes Racing bikes at the Club chicane. Before the race was halted Jenkinson was leading from Rutter, Cooper and Buchan.

Jenkinson was on pole after the re-start but he was shoved to second as Rutter took the lead on lap two in what turned into an eight-lap dash. Cooper and Buchan were fighting it out for third after half race distance.

Jenkinson then fought back at Club and went back into the lead on lap four, only for him to get overtaken by Cooper in the closing stages. Olsen, Elliott, Rouse, Rispoli, Rogers and Phillips all finished the race inside the top ten.
