Thruxton BSB: Hard-tyre gamble puts Mossey on podium

Quattro Tec-care Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey staked his claim for a 2016 MCE British Superbike Showdown spot at Thruxton with another podium finish and a fourth place to put him just 12 points behind sixth-placed man James Ellison in the points table.

The Quattro Tec-care Kawasaki man was one of only a handful of riders to gamble on the hard SC1 rear Pirelli in Hampshire and it paid off as he netted a big points haul in his best weekend of the season so far.

"I am so happy with the results this weekend. From the start my bike felt awesome and we literally put the settings in from last year and worked from there,” said Mossey.

“The heat was pretty intense and we knew it would be a gamble come race day on what to use but all weekend I felt more comfortable on the SC1 tyre and despite not many people using this in race one it was the best one for us.

“I could see people in front of me having issues with their tyres and knew that was my opportunity to try and push harder. I worked my way through and was up to third, the tyre was struggling and on the last lap I had a huge moment, I hit my leg on the tank when I landed back in the seat but secured a good third.”

Mossey had to ride through some pain in race two but again used the SC1 rear and clawed his way up to fourth, cementing his best weekend of the year so far.
