Thruxton BSB: 'I have to improve my skills' - Kiyo

Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari has been spending today’s MCE British Superbike free practice sessions getting used to riding the S1000RR once again at Thruxton, after spending last week competing in the Suzuka Eight-Hours on a Suzuki and Dunlop tyres.

The triple BSB champ had a successful endurance race, and finished third on the podium, and he wants to get back on the rostrum and winning ways this weekend. Now he wants to ‘improve’ his skills, after ending the day only 24th fastest on the combined free practice timesheets this afternoon.

Kiyo is under no illusions that he has been off the pace during the last few rounds, and at the moment is out of Showdown contention, and resides eleventh in the overall standings, on 52 points.

His team made some big changes to his BMW over the last couple of rounds, but now will only make minor adaptations, and are concentrating on getting Kiyo that much needed track time so he can get used to racing his Buildbase backed machine once again, to push himself into the top six in the overall standings.

“I did many laps today and we didn’t test anything, because it is difficult to change from Suzuki and Dunlop tyres to the BMW and Pirelli’s but at the end of the session I was coming better” said Kiyo, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“I will try to get a podium like I did in Suzuka. We will only make minor changes, as over the last five rounds we made too many changes, so we will stay with the same set-up and I have to improve my skills and then Sunday I will try and get podiums and wins.”
