Thruxton BSB: Mossey shocked by maiden podium

Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey still can’t quite believe that he managed to clinch his debut MCE British Superbike podium at Thruxton this weekend, but knew that he had a good chance with a strong bike package to bag some top points today.

He narrowly missed out on getting a second place in the final race, and was caught in a tight battle with PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne. But on the final corner the more experienced rider had that added pace to plough on ahead, leaving Mossey to take up the final rostrum spot.

The ZX-10R rider now has a podium credit to his name, and after finishing race one in sixth, and adding to his third pace finish, he is now up to tenth in the overall championship standings.

“I’m pretty speechless about this weekend to be honest. I knew coming here would be good as it is a track that I really enjoy riding but didn’t think I’d be going away with my first podium place of the year but it’s a great feeling” said Mossey, at the track.

“I can’t thank the Quattro Plant Teccare Kawasaki team more for everything they have done for me this weekend and providing me with a great bike and perfect set-up for the first practice session.

“The bike felt great and I was able to push hard over the weekend but never felt like I was pushing beyond my limit. I was happy qualifying on the front row during qualifying and got a good start but after the red flag I struggled to make any passes and was happy with sixth.

“The second race was great but we were locked in a battle and I was dicing for eighth and ninth place. After Hopkins crash bikes were swerving everywhere to miss him as he was in the track and I managed to get through this and make some passes before the safety car was sent out.

“When the car returned to pit lane I made sure I made the most of it and try to bridge a small gap. I was in a battle with Shakey for second and we made some good passes on each other. I’m totally over the moon to take my first podium of the season.”
