Thruxton BSB: 'Most difficult weekend I've had' - Byrne

PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne did not have the best of starts to his MCE British Superbike campaign at Thruxton, and has said it was the ‘most difficult’ race weekend that he has had.

He qualified in a lowly seventeenth, which was unlike the quadruple-champ who always aims for the front row. But he did manage to salvage some points, and just missed out on a podium in race one to end the outing in fourth, but did improve to get up to second, after fending off the charges of young gun, Luke Mossey on the final lap.

With maximum points going to rival, Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes, Byrne now slips down to second in the overall standings, and after the difficult weekend a podium certainly felt like a win for the Englishman.

“We’ve had a good season up until now but it just hasn’t gone our way this weekend and to be in 17th after qualifying certainly wasn’t in the script. At the same time, if you had said I would get these results on Friday afternoon, I would have snatched your arm off” said Byrne.

“This is the most difficult weekend I’ve ever had with the team and despite their hard work, we’ve been rubbish so I am delighted to salvage these results. The podium finish especially feels like a win, so that one is for my team and their efforts.”
