Thruxton BSB: Parkes vows to come back stronger

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Broc Parkes will make his return to the MCE British Superbike paddock at Cadwell, but will not take part in the two races at Thruxton, after suffering with fluid in his arm.

The Australian did compete in FP1 on Friday, but his team decided that it would be best if Parkes did not take part in the rest of the track activities, after his arm became inflamed due to fluid between the muscles and it was causing him discomfort under his leathers.

Before the last round at Brands he under went double arm-pump surgery and competed at the Kent track, then went on to take part in the Suzuka Eight-Hours. But on the flight back home his arm increased in size and it made it difficult for him to race in his leathers at Thruxton. But since he had the op he hasn’t experienced any arm-pump issues.

This weekend Pirelli National Superstock 1000 regular, Adam Jenkinson has replaced Parkes on the R1, but it is still all go for the racer as he is off to Motegi for a scheduled two-day Yamaha test to try out the M1. But he is excited to be back racing at Cadwell in a few weeks time.

“After Japan my left arm swelled right up, and it is because of fluid between the muscle and the skin. I didn’t have any arm-pump on Friday in free practice it was just that the left arm was so big - it had swelled up in my suit and the team made the decision that my fitness was not 100 percent to compete this weekend,” said Parkes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The good thing is that when I raced in Suzuka and Brands Hatch I didn’t have any arm-pump, but it was just fatigue from all the races that my arm was bad. I was quite happy to race [this weekend], but in the end it is better to come back racing when I am fully fit.

“I go to Japan today, and then I want to see my doctor in Barcelona and get the arm better. I am going to Motegi to do a test for Yamaha on the M1, and that’s the plan [to come back fitter and stronger for Cadwell].”
