Thruxton BSB: Race pace on point for pace-setter Dixon

RAF Reserves Kawasaki's Jake Dixon can go back to his motor-home one happy rider this evening, after he set the quickest time of the MCE British Superbike race weekend so far.

In the second free practice session Dixon lapped a 1'14.716 and even went one tenth under lap record pace. He  went faster than Anvil Hire TAG Racing's Josh Brookes, Smiths BMW's Peter  Hickman and Be Wiser Ducati's Shane Byrne.

Dixon did not have a strong recent test at Cadwell  Park but redeemed himself during today's proceedings. It was all about gaining a fast race pace, and his plan came to fruition this afternoon.

In the second free practice his crew started with a new SC0 rear tyre on his ZX-10RR and he stayed on it for 18 laps, clocking times that went in to the mid 1'15's and 1'16's in the dry conditions. Now Dixon's aim is to replicate that in the double-header on Sunday.

"We  did a Cadwell test on Tuesday and we came away from there quite disheartened and down, then in free practice one I felt really good on the bike and tried a few things," said Dixon at the track.

"We stayed on the SC1 for the whole session so we knew we had the pace in FP1. Then  at the start of FP2 we put in a new zero and did a race run and did mid 1'15's to low 16's and that was for 18 laps and if I can do that in the race I will be happy.

"It is one of my favourite circuits and you need big balls to do it and I am  a little bit stupid so I can go quick around here. We will look at the data tonight to see how we can improve for FP3 tomorrow."
