TT 2015: Hutchy switches to Yamaha as MV withdraw

TT legend Ian Hutchinson has switched to Yamaha for this year's Supersport races at this year’s Isle of Man TT as the factory-backed MV Agusta team believe the amount of development work isn’t enough to make a good showing on the Mountain Course.

Hutchinson was due to team up with Adam Child in the squad but Tsingtao MV boss Dave Tyson said competing this year would not do the MV marque justice and plans have already been laid for 2016. Hutchinson will now line-up with the Team Traction Control squad, owned and run by Prodigy front man Keith Flint.

While the plan was always to compete this year, we have to respect the history of the Marque and the results achieved at TT, and after a long sit down to see where we are and discussion with the factory and Ian, we decided we simply would not be doing the MV the justice it deserves to compete this year,” said Tyson.

“It’s a tough decision but we really believe that the TT should not be taken lightly and we would only want Ian to go there with the best package possible.

“We feel the right programme would be to develop the bike more in Super sport this year and work over winter to optimize the package we have and compete strongly in the next TT rather than rush the campaign now and risk the possibility of mediocre performance.

“The really good news is that Hutchie supports the decision and will be involved in the development ongoing before we compete in 2016, along with our technical partner MSS and the factory and everyone involved with the team - ultimately we don’t go to the TT to make up the numbers, we go there to win and if it takes a few more months before we can be in a position to do that then so be it and in the long term it is the right decision for us, MV and Ian.”
