TT 2015: Podium for Hutchy despite blown exhaust

PBM Kawasaki Ian Hutchinson claimed another TT podium today, baggging third in the Senior race despite doing two laps with a blown exhaust which took vital power out of his ZX-10R as he tried to catch eventual winner John McGuinness.

Hutchinson had been leading the race before it was red-flagged on lap two and, at the re-start, was matching the flying Honda man before a mistake before the pitstops and the exhaust problem meant his top speed at places like Sulby was 20mph down.

“I made a little mistake coming into Signpost, braking with the throttle open and it was just pushing me forward. I had to do a U-turn there before coming into the pits, so it cost us about ten seconds,” said Hutchinson.

“Then I left the pits, got the hammer down and was really enjoying it. The engine sounded like it was about to let go. It was a small rattle at first but the front pipe had blown off so it went totally flat and took all the power out of it. I just wanted to get back and be on the podium and not be beside the road.

“The team have been faultless for the fortnight. I feel a bit flat doing the last two laps not really racing but I have had a mega week. After everything I've been through these last five years, to come back, be competitive and win races has been superb and the future's looking good. John's pretty special at the TT so to be sitting next to him today and having been such a part of his career is superb."
