Michael Dunlop swept to his seventh Supersport race victory at the Isle of Man TT with another victory, his second win of the 2018 event and 17th in total and said in parc ferme that a 130mph is possible on the 600.
Riding the MD Racing Honda, Dunlop reeled in early leader Dean Harrison on the opening lap to lead by 1.7s going on to lap two and he never looked back.
With Harrison starting ten seconds ahead on the road, the Ulsterman had the perfect target and with a new 600cc lap record of 129.197mph, he went into the second half of the race with Harrison well within his sights.
The duo were soon circulating together on the road and Dunlop came home for another TT win to remain on target for six wins in the week.
“I genuinely think I can do 130. Wait for it. Dean’s riding fantastically well and I knew he’d be fast out of the blocks again whilst we haven’t been out on the 600 much during practice, so I just kept calm and chipped away,” Dunlop said afterwards.
“I’ve done quite a bit of work with my fitness but four laps on the 600 are quite hard as it’s difficult to tuck in. Peter (Hickman) says he finds it hard too but whilst his problem is his height, mine’s width and you can’t remove bones or replace big hips!”
“Dean was pushing on, Peter was pushing on and we’re all pushing on but once I could see Dean coming back to be, my pit board starting to increase. 129mph is some going on a 600 but once I caught Dean, I just sat behind him so it’s nice to win again on one of my own bikes.”
