Urgent fix required for Yamaha tyre drop - Vinales

Movistar Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales has admitted that urgent fixes are required if he and Valentino Rossi are to continue their challenge for the MotoGP World Championship in 2017.

The young Spaniard made huge strides at the beginning of the season but rear grip on this year’s M1 has been hard to come by in the second half of races while Johann Zarco, who is riding the 2016 bike, has no such trouble.

“We have this problem on the rear. We are trying to improve but we can’t, especially when it’s hotter and with hard tyres, it’s impossible. Luckily we have a test at Misano before Silverstone. We’re going to try and make another step. If we don’t change something big, it’s going to be impossible,” said Vinales.

“We are trying to improve, to recover the feeling we had. But this is really difficult because with these hard tyres it’s nearly impossible to make the bike work. We just need to find the way. Maybe to go on the soft side to try and make the soft work for all the race.”
