Britain’s Cal Crutchlow walked away from a second crash in as many days at the Valencia MotoGP test, this time getting spat over the highside at turn one after his knee went into an infield puddle.
Yesterday, the CWM LCR Honda man slid off on a cold front tyre on his out lap on a wet track and today his crash was ‘one the biggest’ as he broke a thumb and believes he has cracked both knees.
“I felt like an absolute idiot. I was pushing to gain some time. It was second lap of a new tyre, I cut the kerb so tight I put my knee in the water. There was a massive puddle at turn one, the water went on to the back tyre and the problem was it went around so fast, my throttle went to 100 per cent,” said Crutchlow, speaking at Valencia.
“So I had water on the back tyre, off-gas highside and then I lashed it open. I definitely have a broken thumb and they think two cracked knees. I was dazed, I know that, but I rode the bike back so we don’t class that as a crash. If you get the bike back it’s not a crash. I crashed at turn one but nearly landed at turn two, it was that big.
“After my Texas crash, I would say it’s the biggest one I have had. I was pleased to go back out immediately and went faster. I did the same laptime with 25 laps on the tyre as I did with five laps. I am getting on well with the Honda, I just need some more time.”
