Even though Jonathan Rea almost conquered the World Superbike field in the first half of the year to left a second consecutive World Superbike title, team-mate Tom Sykes gave him a reasonably hard time while it was Ducati’s Chaz Davies who finished 2016 at the top of the tree.

Mentioned must be made, however, of Nicky Hayden’s win at Sepang, Alex Lowes’ battle through a season of injury and Sylvain Guintoli’s battle back from hospital to the Qatar podium while Leon Camier did wonders with the MV Agusta.
