World Superbike ‘feels like a good fit’ for Hayden

Former MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden believes that his switch to Ten Kate Honda in the 2016 World Superbike Championship feels like a good fit for the rest of his career but added he will miss being in the premier class.

Hayden has three races left in MotoGP, starting this weekend at Phillip Island, which will round off 13 years in bike racing’s top flight. The Kentucky rider has three wins and 28 podiums to his name and the aim now is to try and win a WSBK title.

“These last two years haven’t been so good and I haven’t been able to get the results on the Open Honda to keep a high-level bike in MotoGP. I have always thought Superbike is something I would like to try, I like the racing there and the opportunity felt like a good fit,” said Hayden, speaking at Motegi.

“Obviously I am getting a little older but I still enjoy the sport and this will be a fresh challenge. Of course I will miss MotoGP, it’s been great here, I have been part of some great teams and worked with some great people but nothing lasts forever, that’s life.”
