US shopping giant Amazon is a step closer to broadcasting MotoGP after agreeing a deal with Discovery to show its Eurosport channels for a monthly fee which means you can watch WorldSBK and BSB live on it from Tuesday
On top of what might be called traditional broadcasting, Amazon will also start live streaming premium sports content from both Europe and the US. Deals with Eurosport, ITV and Eurosport’s owner Discovery will give access their sports content and starts now with the French tennis open.
No specific mention has been made of other sports content but Amazon has just paid $50m for ten live NFL matches in the States and has not denied it is looking at top tier sports in Europe. It has been rumoured that Amazon is among bidders for MotoGP when the rights contract, currently held by BT, is decided for 2019 onwards.
It is thought that a subscription to Eurosport, for example, will be £6.99 per month but you will also have to stump for the cost of Amazon Prime which is £79.99 for a year. However, you do get access to stuff like Jeremy Clarkson’s show The Grand Tour – for which Amazon paid $250M – films and TV including American Gods, Suits, Black Sails, Lucifer…
