Assen WorldSBK: Gerloff 'made a bad mistake' - Razgatlioglu

Yamaha's Toprak Razgatlioglu is mystified by Garrett Gerloff's turn-one braking attempt in race two at Assen's WorldSBK round but knows it has aversely affected his championship hopes.

Gerloff, like Razgatlioglu a freshly-contracted Yamaha rider, stuffed it up the inside of everyone after starting from eighth on the grid and skittled his Turkish stablemate who was leading the points on Friday,

"Garrett made a bad mistake, I am not sure why he tried to do hard braking like this in the first corner – I was surprised and I only feel angry because we lost so many points for the championship,” said Razgatlioglu.

He is now 37 points behind triple race winner Rea at the head of the championship rankings and said, from his position as kinetic eye-witness, “At the start, I passed Rinaldi into the corner but it was not ‘easy’, it was difficult to stop my own bike so I cannot understand why Garrett arrived inside me.”

With his championship challenge now made much harder by a collision with his fellow Yamaha rider, Razgatlioglu is looking at his old strategy from now on. No strategy, just go all out out to win.

“In Most I will only be looking to fight for the win, I am not looking at championship points any more. This weekend, maybe I just had some bad luck, but we fight hard again for the next race.”
