Brands BSB: Clean sweep for Brookes as he holds off Bridewell

Be Wiser Ducati's Josh Brookes has claimed his third King of Brands title as he led lights-to-flag to beat fellow V4 rider Tommy Bridewell to the flag.

The Australian came under threat from his team-mate Scott Redding early on, but was forced to fend off Oxford Ducati's Bridewell in the second half of the scrap as the championship leader closed the distance.

But it was drama on the grid for James Ellison, whose Smith's BMW was pulled up by scrutineers for an errant tyre pressure setting, forcing him to start at the back of the grid.

Brookes got the better of his team-mate on the start as the Aussie slotted ahead while race one runner-up Dan Linfoot slotted into third.

With Bridewell, Buchan, Glenn Irwin and Peter Hickman behind, the pack began to stretch out and Bridewell had soon shaken Buchan off to make a four-rider train out front.

While Linfoot lost ground as Bridewell found a way through into third and quickly pulled away, Redding was slowly digging into Brookes' lead.

And just as the Donington triple-winner brought his deficit down to just over half a second, he was joined by the Oxford Racing bike of Bridewell, who was right on the former GP star's tail.

Meanwhile back in 14th, Bradley Ray dumped his Buildbase Suzuki at Hawthorns and ended any hopes of home success.

Back in the battle for second, Bridewell finally found a gap and squeezed up the inside of Redding at Druids on lap 10 to take over the runner-up spot as he immediately set his sights on Brookes, who was almost 0.8s up the road.

Bridewell dropped the hammer with five laps to go and knocked half a second off Brookes' gap to bring it down to just 0.341s before dropping it to just over a quarter of a second with two laps remaining.

But the Devizes riders' charge came just a bit too late as he fell 0.238s short at the chequered flag as Brookes double up, with his team-mate Redding in a distant third.

FS3 Kawasaki's Buchan got the better of Linfoot to take fourth, while Tyco BMW's Christian Iddon and Hickman finished sixth and seventh.
