Brands BSB finale: Redding crowned 2019 British Superbike Champion

Despite Be Wiser Ducati team-mate Josh Brookes winning all three Bennetts British Superbike races at Brands Hatch this weekend, Scott Redding did everything necessary to win the 2019 championship in his rookie year.

Redding took 11 wins on his way to the big trophy this year including the taking the first four wins in the Showdown at Assen and Donington Park.

Brookes did exactly as he promised before the event, going out and leading all three races from the front but the breaks didn’t come for the 2015 champion and he had to watch as Redding picked up the title with only five points in hand.

The Quedgely rider admitted he discovered a problem with the exhaust on his second lap and had to take it easy for the race but third behind Bridewell was enough.

Christian Iddon won the ‘Non-Ducati Cup’ race in fourth on the Tyco BMW he will not ride next season. He also picked up the Riders’ Cup while the newly-signed-for-2020 Peter Hickman took fifth place.

Tarran Mackenzie was the first McAMS Yamaha home in sixth but he was only two-tenths ahead of team-mate Jason O'Halloran.

Danny Buchan took eighth with Andrew Irwin ninth and Dan Linfoot wrapping up his season in tenth.
