Cadwell BSB: Irwin slapped with grid penalty after Redding clash

Andrew Irwin has been hit with two penalty points after taking out Scott Redding during today’s second Bennetts British Superbike race.

The two were in a dice for eighth place on lap two when Honda Racing’s Irwin came from a long way back and lost the front at Park, collecting Be Wiser Ducati’s former championship leader as the pair skittled into the grass.

A statement from Race Direction reads:

“Andrew Irwin has been penalised with 2 penalty points for contact causing a crash (with Scott Redding in BSB Race 2).

“With existing penalty points accumulated (5) an additional penalty of starting the next race from the back of the grid is also applied.”

Irwin immediately took to Twitter to apologise to the former GP rider after getting back to the pits:

"I am so sorry @Reddingpower @PBM_Team @HondaRacingBSB @OfficialBSB #idiot"
