Donington BSB: 'I led a lot of races but at the wrong times' – Bridewell

Oxford Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell will adopt a new strategy for this year’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship and try to lead races when it counts instead of from the beginning and burning himself out.

Bridewell finished last year’s series in third and completed an Panigale V4R sweep of the top positions. He now believes he is in a position to take the fight to the likes of Josh Brookes again this time over a condensed six-round series.

“Really the main thing for me is to be more patient. I have a lot of experience but only a small amount at being one of the main title fighters,” said Bridwell, speaking at Donington.

“Last season was a bit learning year for me. I led a lot of races but unfortunately at the wrong times. I’ve watched all the races back and I seem to be the pace-setter.

“I can go off from lap one to nearly the last lap on all but lap record pace but then I burn myself and the bike out.

“This year, I’m trying to be a bit more clever and lead over the line for the chequered flag, and not at the start.

“Last year, we would line up on the grid and then leather it to the finish whereas to become champion this year we’re going to have to think a bit differently, outwit our competitors I guess.”
