Donington BSB: McGreevey steals Superstock 600 win from Richardson

Century Racing’s Korie McGreevey out-dragged new Pirelli National Superstock 600 series leader Shane Richardson to pinch victory today.

The Northern Irishman won late battle against Richardson and Aaron Clifford to secure his first win of the season.

Astro JJR’s Richardson got the best start and was well out front as he looked to be on for another flyer after his domination at Oulton Park last time out.

But as the New Zealander held station at the front, a scrap for second ensued as McGreevey and Clifford, the latter of whom led the series at the start of the weekend, fought for runner-up honours.

It wasn’t long before McGreevey bridged the gap to Richardson, however, and on lap 13 the Triumph ridder laid a pass on Richardson at the top of Craner to take the lead.

But just a lap later, Clifford joined them and hit the front at Starkey’s to make a three-way fight for victory.

With two laps to go, McGreevey found a way through on Clifford at Redgate, but it was Richardson on a charge seconds later as the Kiwi slipped up the inside of Clifford at Craner before passing McGreevey at the Old Hairpin.

It was all action on the final lap as Ben Luxton tagged onto the back of the leading trio and despite Richardson leading the pack into Roberts chicane, McGreevey beat him on the drag race to the line by 0.030s as Clifford held on for third.
