Donington BSB: MLav Academy scores BTC dead heat| BSB Staff | BSB Support
After 22 laps of British Talent Cup action around Donington Park on Sunday, VisionTrack MLav Academy riders Johnny Garness and Carter Brown crossed the line for the first dead heat finish in 27 years inside the British Superbike paddock.
Having already claimed victory in the first race of the weekend on Saturday, Brown had to fight his way through from ninth position on Sunday’s grid. Initially getting bogged down in the pack before timing his run to the line to perfection in the closing stages of the race.
Garness likewise battled hard early on in the race, fending off attacks from every direction throughout the course of the 22 laps and returning to the front of the pack after every altercation.
The race came down to the very final run to the line, after making a small mistake out of the last corner Garness lost a little bit of his drive allowing Brown to sneak up alongside him. The crowd stood in disbelief after the timing monitors confirmed there was 0.000 seconds difference between the pair on the line. Race direction looking closely at the photo finish before confirming it was in fact a dead heat with both riders, from the same team, sharing the victory.
“That was so much fun!” Garness said after the chaos had died down. “There was so much happening throughout the race I just concentrated on trying to stay at the front of the pack. When I crossed the line I wasn’t sure who had won but I was so happy to stand on the top step with my teammate, Carter”
“I don’t know what to say, I’m blown away!” Brown added. “It was a crazy weekend, I was so happy to win on Saturday so to back that up with another win today is amazing. I still can’t believe it was a dead heat, I’m so happy for me and the VisionTrack MLav Academy team.”
