Donington BSB: Race weekend stats, facts and pub ammo

With third place in the final race at Thruxton, Danny Kent became the 80th rider to have stood on a British Superbike Championship podium.

Three wins at Thruxton moved Jason O’Halloran to a career total of 11, the same as Scott Redding and the joint 15th highest ever in the history of the BSB series.

Xavi Fores’ first ever BSB podium came on the Donington National circuit in 2019. He went on to finish on the podium in all three races that weekend.

Josh Brookes has yet to take a podium in the 2021 series, with the 12-race run his worst ever streak without standing on the rostrum.

A crash in race two at Thruxton brought to an end Christian Iddon’s run of scoring points in 33 consecutive races.

Third place in the second race at Thruxton was Glenn Irwin’s first BSB podium of the season, giving him a career-total to date of 19, the same as Japanese ace Yukio Kagayama.

Two fourth place finishes at the last round at Thruxton were Ryan Vickers’ best ever results in BSB.

Out of the 12 races to take place so far in 2021, four different riders have won races with eight different riders having stood on the podium.

Only two riders have scored points in every race to take place so far in 2021 – Tarran Mackenzie and Danny Buchan.

Fifth in the final race at Thruxton was Andrew Irwin’s best result thus far in 2021. The Ulsterman won two of the three races on the Donington National circuit in 2020.

Since 1996, Donington Park has hosted 69 BSB races with those races seeing 24 different race winners and 45 different riders stand on the podium.

Only four riders in this weekend’s entry have previously won BSB races at Donington Park – Josh Brookes (3), Andrew Irwin (3), Tarran Mackenzie (1) and Tommy Bridewell (1).

Shane Byrne has won more BSB races (8) at Donington than any other rider and is followed by Niall Mackenzie and John Reynolds (both 6), Scott Redding (5) and Chris Walker, Michael Rutter, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Leon Haslam (all 4).

Bradley Ray took his first and only BSB victories at Donington Park in 2018 when he took a double race victory on the GP circuit.

Both Tommy Bridewell and Andrew Irwin took their last BSB victory at Donington Park, Bridewell on the National circuit in August last year and Irwin on the GP circuit in October, also last year.

John Reynolds and Shane Byrne have taken the most podiums (16) at Donington followed by Leon Haslam (12), Josh Brookes (11), Chris Walker (10), Niall Mackenzie and Steve Hislop (both 9) and Michael Rutter, James Haydon and Ryuichi Kiyonari (all 8).

Peter Hickman made his 350th BSB race start in race two at Thruxton.

Glenn Irwin will make his 125th BSB race start in the opening race this weekend.

Irwin finished second in all three races on the Donington National circuit last year.

First and second in the championship, Jason O’Halloran and Christian Iddon have made a near-identical number of starts in BSB with 166 and 165 respectively.

Ducati is the most successful manufacturer at Donington Park with 32 wins followed by Yamaha (12), Suzuki and Honda (both 8), Kawasaki (7) and BMW (2).

Ducati last won at Donington Park in October 2020 with Josh Brookes.

Andrew Irwin gave Honda their last victory at Donington Park in October 2020.

Tarran Mackenzie gave Yamaha their last victory at Donington in October 2020; this was their first BSB victory at the circuit since James Ellison in 2009.

Suzuki last won at Donington in 2018 with Bradley Ray.

Kawasaki last won at Donington in 2017 with Leon Haslam.

BMW were last victorious at Donington in 2014 when Ryuichi Kiyonari won both races. These are the German manufacturer’s only BSB wins at the circuit.
