Donington BSB: Skinner runs away with Supersport sprint race

Just as he had done in practice and qualifying, Rory Skinner blitzed the opposition in the opening race of the Quattro British Supersport Championship season, taking the win at Donington Park by a commanding 7.6s.

Starting from pole position, the Tyser Yamaha rider grabbed the holeshot and never looked back, pulling away by more than half a second a lap before easing off in the closing stages of the 20-lap race.

As he disappeared into the distance, all eyes fell on the battle for second race which at one stage featured seven riders. Alastair Seeley was the first to go as he crashed at the chicane whilst Harry Truelove ran straight on moments before. He rejoined the track only to crash moments later at Redgate.

Gearlink Kawasaki team-mates Ben Currie and James Westmoreland were joined by Bradley Perie and Charlie Nesbitt with less than a second covering them but Currie ran wide at Redgate and then retired on unlucky lap 13.

Westmoreland was able to successfully fend off the opposition to claim a good second and it was Perie who came through for a career-best third place. Jones missed out on the podium by just 0.096s and in turn was only 0.138s ahead of Nesbitt but he was comfortably the first of the GP2 Cup riders to finish.

Mason Law took sixth, the second GP2 Cup runner, with Tom Toparis, Korie McGreevy, Ross Patterson and Richard Kerr completing the top ten.

Tom Oliver took 12th to claim the final podium place in the GP2 class but only after Jack Scott fell on the final lap.
