Donington BSB: Supersport double for Skinner

Rory Skinner’s dream start to this year’s Quattro British Supersport Championship continued on Sunday afternoon as he again dominated proceedings at Donington Park with a lap record helping him complete the double victory.

The Tyser Yamaha rider took the lead through Hollywood on the opening lap and lapping at more than a second a lap quicker than anyone else for the first half of the race, he eventually took the chequered flag from James Westmoreland (Gearlink Kawasaki) and Bradley Perie (Diamond H Racing Yamaha) by more than nine seconds. Jack Scott took the honours in the GP2 Cup class.

It was Scott who led through Redgate corner before being overhauled by Skinner and as the Scottish rider romped clear, all eyes fell on the ferocious battle for second between Westmoreland, Perie and Brad Jones with Scott also involved.

Positions changed frequently but Westmoreland was always the stronger coming into the final chicane and with a good drive out of Coppice on the final lap, he was never going to be outbraked.

Skinner’s team-mate Brad Jones crossed the line in third place but received a 1.7s time penalty for cutting the course and he dropped back to fourth with Perie elevated to third to match his result from the day before.

Scott stayed with the Supersport riders all the way to the end and comfortably take the GP2 Cup honours from Mason Law and Alastair Seeley who bounced back from his crash on Saturday.

Jones picked up 13 points for being the fourth Supersport rider to cross the line with Irishman Richard Kerr and Dutchman Rob Hartog on the BikeDevil MV Agusta completing the top six ahead of Ben Currie who had to start from the back of the grid. He also picked up two time penalties during the course of the race.

Tom Toparis and Korie McGreevy looked set to dispute the podium positions after completing the first lap inside the top five but a huge highside at the chicane for the reigning Australian Supersport Champion saw both riders crash out.
