Donington BSB test: Last-lap Jackson tops the timesheets

FS-3 Kawasaki’s Lee Jackson left it until his last flying lap to top the timesheets at today’s final Bennetts British Superbike pre-season test at Donington Park.

Jackson put in a 1’06.583 to oust the McAMS Yamaha of Jason O’Halloran from P1 by 0.017sand also grazed Tommy Bridewell’s lap record on the national circuit, set in May last year. Hector Barbera, on the Rich OMG BMW, was also a late improver for third and only 0.003s further back.

Honda’s Glenn Irwin ended the day in fourth overall after topping session three on the new Fireblade while younger brother Andrew was one place further back after heading session one and two at the Leicestershire circuit.

Essex gangsta Danny Buchan, on the sister ZX-10R to Jackson’s, put in a 1’06.664 for sixth place overall which held former champion and title favourite Josh Brookes in seventh.

Brookes’ best of the day was a 1’06.719 on the Panigale V4R and he was run close by youngster Ryan Vickers on the RAF Reserves Kawasaki.

Joe Francis finished in ninth place with Bradley Ray in tenth on the Synetiq BMW. TT lap record holder Pete Hickman was 11th on his BMW with Luke Mossey 12th on the second Rich OMG S1000RR.

Tarran Mackenzie placed 13th on his McAMS R1 with Bridewell down in 14th. Kyle Ryde completed the top 15.

In the Quattro Supersport/GP2 class, Scotland’s Rory Skinner took his Tyser Yamaha to top spot, a little over half a second ahead of surprise package Bradley Perie.

Skinner was under Alastair Seeley’s lap record of 1’08.650 with a 1’08.450 set in session three. Veteran James Westmoreland was third with Ben Currie in fourth and Brad Jones in fifth place.

Sprint Moto Corsa’s Joey Thompson was the leading GP2 rider with a 1’10.076 and he was chased by Charlie Nesbitt and Andy Reid.

Chrissy Rouse topped the combined Pirelli National Superstock 1000 times with a best of 1'08.236 and he led former Moto3 world champ Danny Kent by just 0.068s.

Tom Neave was third with Lewis Rollo fourth and Matt Truelove in fifth place. The returning Ian Hutchison was 14th and evergreen Michael Rutter in 27th.

There was also an appearance by former BSB man Barry Burrell in 31st, one ahead of Michael Dunlop. Jenny Tinmmouth was 34th.
