Donington BSB: Todd crowned National Superstock Champion

Two wins at Donington Park at the weekend saw Davey Todd wrap up the Pirelli National Superstock Championship with one round to spare, the Cleveland rider giving the Padgetts Honda team their first British title since Leon Camier lifted the Supersport crown in 2005.

After taking regular podiums throughout the season, the 27-year old hit race-winning form at the business end of the season with his maiden victory coming at Snetterton at the beginning of last month.

A double victory at Oulton Park meant he arrived at Donington Park with a 26-point lead over Billy McConnell and second to Richard Kerr in the opening race, when McConnell finished fourth, meant he needed a second-place finish to clinch the title ahead of the final round at Brands Hatch.

Todd opted for the direct approach and, grabbing the lead from the outset, a series of rapid laps, which included a new lap record of the 1’30.195 on the Milenco-backed machine, enabled him to control the race from the front. He eventually took the race win, his fourth of the season, 1.9s clear of McConnell.

With an unassailable lead, Todd duly took the title and, one of the hottest properties in racing, he now hopes to move up to the premier BSB series in 2023, his title success on the short circuits following on from a series of high class performances on the roads which included podiums at both the Isle of Man TT and North West 200 as well as victories at the Armoy and Scarborough Gold Cup road races.
