Donington GP BSB: Bad weather sees all action called off for Saturday

Bennetts British Superbike bosses have been forced to call off all action for today as rain continues to fall at Donington Park.

Two attempts have been made to run Superbike races today but the amount of spray coming off the track meant it was impossible.

Only two two of the six races took place due to the torrential rain that continued to fall, legacy of Storm Alex that has swept across the UK this weekend.

The forecasted deluge came during the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race and conditions worsened just after 12pm as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship riders took to the 2.5-mile Grand Prix circuit.

One sighting lap was all it took for riders and organisers to collectively agree conditions were too worse to continue, with standing water and large amounts of spray the major issues.

The rain did slightly abate, enough for the Superbikes to head out on track once more at 13.55 but no sooner had they done so, the heavy rain returned whilst they were on their warm-up lap with a number of riders raising their hand as they returned to the grid requesting the start be delayed.

With forecasts showing it would continue for the remainder of the day, MSV supremo Stuart Higgs took the only possible decision and cancelled all track action for the rest of the day.

The forecast does look better for Sunday when although rain is still expected, it’s expected to be light rather than heavy.
