Former Bennetts British Superbike Champion Josh Brookes led the wet second free practice session at Donington Park but only by 0.030s over VisionTrack Ducati team-mate Christian Iddon while Tommy Bridewell made it a Panigale clean sweep.
Brookes set his sheet-topping 1’47.378 right at the start of the session and it was enough to fend off charges from Iddon, Bridewell, Danny Buchan and Lee Jackson.
Iddon got the closest with a 1’47.408 while Oxford Racing Ducati’s Bridewell ended up a quarter of a second off the pace in third.
Jackson and FS-3 Kawasaki team-mate Buchan traded times but it was the plumber who came out on top with a 1’48.183 to head the Essex geeza by 0.052s.
Rich Energy BMW’s Luke Mossey made a brief appearance in the top three before sliding back to sixth place on a 1’48.416.
Series leader Glenn Irwin put his Fireblade in seventh on a 1’48.820 with Jason O’Halloran one place further back and 1.482 off the pace.
Kyle Ryde was the first Suzuki home on a 1’49.237 which was enough for ninth place with Hector Barbera in tenth.
Andrew Irwin crashed his Fireblade but made it back to the pits while Tarran Mackenzie registered a lap good enough for 12th place despite a crash at Schwantz.
Irishman Brian McCormack took 13th with a 1’50.001 with Gino Rea and Graeme Irwin completing the top 15.
