Donington WorldSBK: 'You don't have a small crash at Craner' - Lowes

There is an old saying which goes something like: ‘If you race a bike in Britain, you’ve either crashed at Craner Curves or you’re going to.”

Yamaha’s Alex Lowes joined the Craner Club a long time ago but revisited it yesterday in free practice one, going down on the flick from left to right and the crash, from which he walked away with a sore arse, was captured beautifully by Jamie Morris at GeeBee Images.

Lowes was typically upbeat after the incident, and with good reason as he ended the day second fastest and only 0.018s behind pace setter Tam Sykes.

“It’s great to be here and riding in front of my home crowd. I feel really good on the bike, even with the little tip off this morning,” said Lowes last night.

“I say little, but you don’t have a small crash at Craner Curves. It was my mistake; I crashed on a cold tyre after a slow lap, so sorry to the guys for giving them some unexpected extra work today.

“This afternoon the bike felt good again, but I still want to improve the braking phase a bit more tomorrow, to give me a little more margin.”
