Dorna offering aid package to Moto2 and Moto3 teams

MotoGP owner Dorna is offering financial support to teams in Moto2 and Moto3 that are facing the prospect of withdrawal from both series during the period of event postponement or cancellation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Although Dorna have a revised calendar there can be no certainty that the season will start at Jerez on May 3. More likely it will be early autumn but Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta remains cautiously optimistic.

IRTA boss Mike Trimby told BSN: ”We recognise the difficulties all these teams face, some more than others, but we are today in the process of supporting each team, based on a sizeable sum per rider, which will help them in this difficult period.”

In a fighting address to all concerned with MotoGP, and especially the fans, MotoGp boss Carmela Ezpeleta said: ”After the changes we’ve already announced we now have to keep up to date with every detail of both the evolution of the pandemic and government policies, with the goal of maintaining ther maximum number of events. That’s our main target and objective as of today.

“Despite the challenges we face we’re happy and proud to know that the sport itself is better than ever – as MotoGP pre-season testing proved where the time sheets were the tightest in history. In Qatar we saw a glimpse of that already thanks to two magnificent races in Moto2 and Moto3 – and that’s only served to whet out appetite for more.

“So, to all those fans, there is only one thing left to say: we look forward to seeing you again soon – back on track.”
