Dovizioso casts doubts on the Honda MotoGP 'dream team'

MotoGP's 2018 runner-up Andrea Dovizioso had acknowledged the Repsol Honda squad look like the strongest team on paper for next season but believes that having two champions in one squad may not be the correct formula.

Dovizioso and former Ducati team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who has moved to HRC for the next two terms, were open in their dislike for each other and it appears that tension between them began to build when Dovizioso ordered changes after his string of non-finishes.
"After the zeros, we work in a different way because in my feeling it wasn't good enough. We had too many question marks over technical things. We decided to go one way and it pay off," said Dovizioso.

"The speed we had this year enabled us to fight for the championship. I don't know if that will be in 2019 as Marc and Honda are the strongest but I think now the competitors look at us in a different way.

"Now we are one of the best mix of rider and bike. We have some very good characteristic - better than the competitor - but still in some other parts we are worse. We couldn't win in Aragon, which confirm we still have some issue. It was clear what we had to improve.

"Jorge make a big step and is normal it affect me because I wasn't doing enough. When you have two riders for the world championship we push each other and it is positive for the development of the bike but it also created tension. This is a way to lose points.

"Every champion is doing in a special way one thing. When I look at the data, I can see some bad things but always a special thing so this is the negative point we will not have next year.

"On paper, Honda is the best team but it doesn't mean they will be the strongest team..."
