Gresini expecting Aprilia to run full factory team in 2022

Aprilia team manager Fausto Gresini expects the manufacturer to run its own full factory squad in 2022 when the contract with his own team expires.

Currently, Gresini Racing run the outfit with major input from the Noale factory but the former 250cc star believes they will go their separate ways after the 2021 season.

"The contract with Aprilia will expire at the end of 2021, because it is expected that in 2022, they will be in MotoGP with their own team," said Gresini.

"I could continue with them as a satellite team, as happens with other manufacturers, or I could take another path. We still have to sit down and talk about it."

Gresini believes this season will see just how good the RS-GP can be even though who will ride alongside Aleix Espargaro is still up in the air.

"I think 2020 will be the year of truth for Aprilia. Last year Massimo Rivola arrived, and it was positive, we see that the whole group believes in the project and important investments have been made. Clearly there is no on/off switch. It takes time to get certain results."

Gresini was talking to the stout fellows at GPone.com.
