Herlings breaks collarbone in training crash

Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings has broken his right collarbone while training at Bergham track in the Netherlands today.

The series leader was due to contest this weekend’s MXGP round at Ottobiano but will undergo surgery on his right shoulder this evening.

He will still retain the red plate even if he is absent as he is so far ahead in the points table, he will still have a 12-point lead if he doesn’t compete.

A team statement reads:

“Jeffrey Herlings is a major doubt for this weekend’s MXGP of Lombardia after a crash while training in Holland today. The FIM World Championship leader (by 62 points) will undergo surgery on his right collarbone this evening. Round 11 of MXGP takes place in the Ottobiano sand and is followed by a two-week hiatus before the Grand Prix of Indonesia.”
