'I want to start winning races as soon as possible' - Laverty

BMW Motorrad new-boy Eugene Laverty wants to start winning WorldSBK races as soon as possible but isn’t making any firm targets until the first test at the end of this month.

Laverty, along with team-mate Tom Sykes, unveiled the 2020 S1000RR in Italy and said he can see a bike that worked well in 2019.

“I’ve got the shirt on now so it feels real. In three weeks I get to ride the bike for the first time,” said Laverty, speaking at the EICMA Show.

“This year I raced Tom a few times and that encouraged me because it’s very agile and it turns well. At Phillip Island, it was a new bike and it was working well there.

“I want to be part of this project because I can see a good base bike and it’s only going to improve from there, so I want to be winning races as soon as possible.

“But it’s difficult to make goals until I try the bike at the end of this month and then I will know better where we stand.”
