Imola WorldSBK: Sickness decimates Lowes' track time

Pata Yamaha's Alex Lowes was forced to minimise his WorldSBK laps at Imola today after being decimated by a sickness bug that has left him weak and with little sleep.

The Derby resident completed 31 laps today and finished seventh on the combined timesheet, 1.163s behind fastest man Jonathan Rea but didn't try for a time attack lap.

"I got off the plane on Wednesday night, had a bit of a bad stomach, coming down the motorway and had to have a couple of yaks out of the window. That night was a life low point, really horrible, then yesterday I couldn't keep any food down.

"I had an anti-sickness injection, so I wasn't ill any more but I just feel drained. I've managed a bit of toast and a banana today but it's not enough. I had to minimise my laps today as I just feel weak.

"I got more done today than I thought, the bike feels good. I tried all the different tyres and I wasn't too uncompetitive. I didn't try a new tyre and hopefully tomorrow I will feel better."
