Irwin splits from Quattro Kawasaki British Superbike squad

Glenn Irwin has split with the Quattro Kawasaki Bennetts British Superbike team.

Rumours had been circulating after the Irish rider wasn’t in attendance at Snetterton, firstly saying he had tonsillitis and then a virus which was affecting his vision.

Hector Barbera was called back into the team to ride alongside Ben Currie and it was announced this afternoon that Irwin would not be returning.

“Glenn has a long history with Kawasaki, riding for us in a multitude of classes and achieving numerous successes along the way,” said Kawasaki racing boss Ross Burridge.

“We signed Glenn on to the team with the hope of retaining the British Championship title this year, but for a myriad of reasons it hasn’t worked out.

“I would like to personally thank Glenn for his efforts in trying to turn his season around and for his tremendous achievement at the Northwest 200. Best of luck in what the future holds for you Glenn.”

It is expected that former MotoGP star Barbera will remain with the team for the Thruxton round.
