Jerez Moto3 test: McPhee tails Ogura after three days

Honda Asia's Ai Ogura pipped John McPhee (Petronas Sprinta Racing) to top spot at the Official Moto3 Jerez test as the lightweight class lapped thetrack quicker than ever.

Ogura’s 1'44.670 on the final day was 0.050 better than McPhee’s effort, with Gabriel Rodrigo (Kömmerling Gresini Moto3) completing a top three all in the 1'44s.

The final day in southern Spain saw the Moto3 riders go into time attack mode as the riders aimed to see what their one-lap qualifying pace was like.

The top three all set their 1'44s in the opening session of Friday, along with 14 other riders as Honda riders locked out the top five, Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse) and Sergio Garcia (Estrella Galicia 0,0) sitting 0.5 off Ogura’s time.

And talking of the Japanese factory, their new Moto3 machine made more of an appearance on Friday, with the biggest difference being the gearbox.

On the other side of the coin, the 2020 KTM bike - according to some teams - is much nimbler than the previous version and the leading Austrian factory rider was sixth place Raul Fernandez (Red Bull KTM Ajo), with Albert Arenas (Aspar Team) a tenth behind in P7.

Honda Team Asia’s Yuki Kunii joined his teammate inside the top 10 by finishing P8, a great job by the rookie who has Filip Salač (Rivacold Snipers Team) and Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Tech 3) behind him in P9 and P10 respectively.
