Jerez WSBK: Aprilia boss confirms no factory team in 2016

Aprilia race boss Romano Albesiano has confirmed there will be no works team in World Superbike series next season as the factory is concentrating its efforts in MotoGP - but he said that if a good enough team is willing to step up then support will be available.

This season, Leon Haslam and Jordi Torres have ridden under the Red Devils umbrella but the partnership between the team and the factory will not carry on so both may be looking for rides next season or mau have to wait until a team comes forward. It is believed Shaun Muir’s Milwaukee squad were in discussion with Aprilia and this is still ongoing.

“Superbike has played an important part in Aprilia’s history but next year we won’t have a factory team. The efforts required by the MotoGP project are so big that require our full commitment. MotoGP is our future. Of course if there will be some satellite teams interested, Aprilia will continue in Superbike,” said Albesiano.

“The target this year was third position in the World Championship and we are still fighting for it. The season started well and then we struggled more. The commitments were triple this year with the MotoGP, the World Superbike and a team in the Superstock 1000, where we are leading with Savadori. It was a hard work!”
