Knockhill BSB: Perie wins as Smith crashes out of Supersport sprint

Appleyard McAdam Yamaha’s Bradley Perie took a dramatic win in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Knockhill on Saturday after long-time leader Kyle Smith crashed out on the final lap.

Smith (Dynavolt Triumph) had qualified on pole and held a lead of 1.7s at one stage but as the race wore on Perie gradually reeled him in with the gap down to just 0.3s with five laps remaining.

It looked like Smith would hold on but he went down at McIntyre’s with just a few corners to go and Perie gratefully took his second win of the season.

Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) and Jack Kennedy were close behind but the former ran wide at the hairpin with just two laps to go which allowed Kennedy to re-take him.

Johnston looked like he’d miss out on a podium but Smith’s crash promoted him to third with Kennedy holding on for second.

Ben Currie (Gearlink Kawasaki) had a lonely ride into fourth with Charlie Nesbitt (RS Racing Kalex) and Jamie Perrin (Spirit Motocorsa) having a good battle for fifth which went the way of Nesbitt, the duo the first of the two GP2 Cup riders past the chequered flag.

Jack Scott (JJ Harris) was the third GP2 Cup rider home in seventh overall with Eunan McGlinchey (Gearlink Kawasaki), Brandon Paasch (Dynavolt Triumph) and Harry Truelove (Truelove Brothers Racing Yamaha) completing the top ten.

Korie McGreevy (Mar-Train Racing Yamaha) ran in the top five in the early stages before crashing at Clark’s on the fifth lap whilst Sam Munro (Munro Racing Yamaha) lost a top ten position when he went down at the hairpin at three-quarters race distance.
