Lombok WorldSBK: Haslam fitness to be reviewed

Leon Haslam is set for his final WorldSBK round in HRC colours at Lombok’s Mandalika International Street Circuit this weekend.

While the Brit is excited to complete the season at a brand new venue, his recent shoulder surgery does leave a question mark hanging in the air over his fitness. Haslam will undergo review by the championship’s medical team following Friday’s FP1 session - which hits the new 4.3 km asphalt at 3am UK time - before a decision on his full weekend participation.

KRT’s Alex Lowes and BMW’s Tom Sykes will also be reviewed after the opening Friday practice - Lowes for his ongoing wrist issues, for which he too has undergone recent surgery, and Sykes for his Barcelona concussion.

“I’m really looking forward to Indonesia, for several reasons,” Haslam said ahead of the final race weekend. “Firstly, it’s a new track for everyone, which makes things exciting.

“It’s also the last round of the championship of course, as well as my final event with Honda. The new circuit looks like a fantastic place so I hope we can all enjoy it, and from what I’ve seen, I think the Honda might go well there too, around what is a more flowing layout.

“I’ve recently had shoulder surgery, so fingers crossed I’m in good shape as it would be really great to bid farewell to 2021 in a positive fashion, finishing the season on a high.”
