Heavy rain battered the second WorldSBK free practice at Magny-Cours this afternoon which ensured Yamaha’s Michael van der Mark stayed at the top of the combined Friday timesheets.
The amount of water on the French circuit kept laptimes to around three seconds slower than the less-wet first session this morning with Jonathan Rea taking top spot on a 1’54.548 despite a whopping scare which saw the reigning champion nearly highside and then run into the gravel.
Tom Sykes was second quickest in the session but remained 18th fastest overall while Leon Haslam, on the second works Kawasaki, finished third in both.
Neither of the works Ducatis ventured out in the rain, both GRT Yamahas went out and Sandro Cortese crashed but only suffered contusions. There was no sign of the works Yamahas and Eugene Laverty elected not to mess up his hair.
