Magny-Cours WorldSBK: Rea takes win and podium record

Newly-crowned WorldSBK Champion Jonathan Rea took the second race win at Magny-Cours this afternoon and broke Troy Corser’s all-time podium record of 130.

Rea took the lead from Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies at half distance and then gradually opened a gap to cross the line with a 1.8s lead. Pata Yamaha's Michael van der Mark was third.

Rea's team-mate Tom Sykes overhauled the initially-fast front-row starter Marco Melandri - on the second works Panigale -  for fourth place, keeping Melandri fifth.

M0re than11 seconds back from Rea, Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia) was sixth and Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha) seventh.

Xavi Fores (Barni Ducati) won a last-lap battle with Leon Camier (Red Bull Honda) for eighth, while race long scrapper on home soil, Loris Baz (Althea BMW), got the better of his two combative companions, Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Puccetti Kawasaki) for tenth. Jake Gagne was 16th and just missed out on a championship point in 16th place.

Rea now has a points total of 470, Davies has 335, van der Mark 309 and Sykes 273. Davies has extended his lead over Magic Mikey in the battle for second place in the championship chase.
