Maiden ETC victory for O’Gorman and MLav VisionTrack Academy| Christina Bulpett | MotoGP
Casey O’Gorman claimed his and the MLav VisionTrack Academy’s first victory on European soil after a stunning five-rider fight at Motorland Aragon on Sunday.
An impressive photo-finish saw the 15-year-old take the win by a mere 0.008s from race one victor Guido Pini (AC Racing) after the pair outpaced Aspar’s Joel Esteban, Honda’s Maximo Martinez and Estrella Galicia’s Brian Uriarte in the last lap fight.
His third podium of the season - following two third places at Jerez and Portimao - finishing fourth on Saturday was all the motivation needed to dig deep for the maiden visit to the top step in the Hawkers European Talent Cup. O’Gorman currently sits fourth overall in the 2022 standings, 40 points shy of series leader Pini and 11 points adrift of Martinez in third, with just Valencia’s final race left to conclude the season.
“After the first race, after missing out on the podium due to some mistakes on the last lap, I was very annoyed with myself,” O’Gorman admitted to Bikesportnews.com. “It gave me extra motivation to push harder on the second race for my first race win.
“When I came across the line and I knew I’d won, I was so happy. It was the best feeling I’ve had.
“The track was quite slick out there,” he continued on Sunday’s conditions. “When I made the move to take the lead into the last corner, I just stood on the rear brake to make sure it stopped, managed to protect the inside and outdrive the boys to the line.”
