Misano WorldSBK test: Redding focuses on used-tyre pace

Aruba Ducati’s Scott Redding spent most of the Misano WorldSBK test focusing on used tyre pace but also managed to find a laptime on qualifying tyres to make some of his former MotoGP colleagues look like monkeys.

Redding had a few new parts to try on the works Panigale V4R but his main aim was to find a solution to the tyre wear problem he experienced at Phillip Island during his class debut.

“These were three very positive days as it was important to regain the feeling with the bike. We have worked a lot especially with used tyres and we have tried new solutions that have given positive feedback,” said Redding.

“I’ve been working out a lot these months with the goal of losing weight. In the end, I also managed to set a good lap but this is not important. It was great to get back to work with the guys and I can’t wait to get back on track.”

Redding’s sheet-topping lap was a 1’30.067 which was only a tenth slower than Aleix Espargaro on the factory Aprilia, who set the quickest MotoGP time.

It again begs the question on what are MotoGO types spending their money if a WorldSBK contender can get so close?
