MotoGP Aragon: Canet goes through Q1 to smash pole

Sterilgarda Max Racing Team Moto3 rider Aron Canet kickstarted his World Championship charge after a stunning lap saw him take pole position by over seven tenths of a second at Motorland Aragon.

With a wet FP3, Canet was forced to go through Q1 and with the track dry, the Spaniard fired himself into Q2. With grip reduced due to the morning rain, Canet, along with other Q1 graduates Dennis Foggia, Carlos Tatay and Celestino Vietti all looked good, knowing where the majority of the grip is, however nobody could touch Canet.

A stunning 1:58.197 saw him smash the pole position by 0.701 from Ai Ogura, benefitting from a long slip stream from Jaume Masia down the back straight, with Tatay using his Q1 laps to produce a stunning front row start in third place.

Experienced Czech rider Jakub Kornfiel will head the second row in fourth place, with Vietti and Alonso Lopez rounding out the second row. Form man Tony Arbolino will start from seventh with Misano race winner Tatsuki Suzuki and John McPhee in eighth and ninth respectivetly.

World Championship leader Lorenzo Dalla Porta will start from the back of the fourth row in twelfth place, leaving his work cut out in order to try and limit the damage to the pole sitter.
