MotoGP Aragon: Gonzalez swaps Magny-Cours win for Moto2 return

Manuel Gonzales returns to the Moto2 paddock with a debut WorldSSP victory under his belt, as he subs for Forward Racing’s Lorenzo Baldassarri at Aragón.

Gonzalez will stand in for Baldassarri for the second time this season as the Italian continues to suffer from the aftermath of his Sachsenring wrist injury. The Forward Racing Team taking the decision to rest him before his home race in Misano next weekend.

Securing the WorldSSP300 Championship, in 2019, Gonzales has already impressed during his year and half on Supersport 600 machinery. Completing his debut season as ‘best rookie’ and seventh overall, the Spaniard achieved his first victory, and third podium in the class last weekend at Magny-Cours after swapping from Kawasaki to the ParkinGo Yamaha team and defeating World Championship leader Dominique Aegerter.

Gonzalez’ initial outing came at the Dutch TT in Assen at the end of June where he finished 22nd just behind teammate Simone Corsi. Paddock rumours also suggesting that the bright talent could make the switch full time next season, with the MV Agusta squad.

“I’m happy to have the chance to make another race in Moto2 after the round in Assen,” Gonzalez said of the call up. “I’m sorry for Lorenzo (Baldassarri) who is not 100% fit, I would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

“I will do my best on track: I want to enjoy this weekend trying to learn as many things as possible in every session. I would like to thank the Team MV Agusta Forward Racing for the chance, Yamaha Europe and ParkinGO Team to let me race in Aragon”
