MotoGP Aragon: Martin in charge but ‘needing to improve in all areas’

Prima Pramac’s Jorge Martin finished Friday practice at the top of the MotoGP times at his home Motorland Aragon track.

The first time the Spaniard has spent Friday night in charge since his promotion to the premier class, the 24-year-old knows there is still work to do across the weekend as low grip and challenging conditions prevented an ideal lap across the opening two 45-minute sessions.

“We started off on the right foot, I feel really fit and I'm very charged up,” Martin said from Alcañiz. “This feels like my home race, I always enjoy being here racing. We still have to improve but we are in the right direction.

“I think is the first time I lead a Friday in MotoGP so I'm quite happy about this but it's also only Friday.

“For sure, it's important to start in a good way. I feel like we need to improve still in almost all the areas, even in the middle of the corner but also in exit I'm missing some grip. But in general the grip is not fantastic, but we are working hard so I hope to improve tomorrow and be competitive during the weekend.”

While Martin headed the times thanks to his 1’47.402 effort, four Ducati riders in the top five showed the continuing domination of the Bologna factory.

“I didn't see all the timing, but for sure Ducati is working well. All the Ducati riders are fast here also, so is good information and data for work for tomorrow.

“I always give my 100 per cent and [front row] is the target,” he said of his Saturday aims. “If we want to make a good race on Sunday is important to start on the front row.
