MotoGP Aragon: Slick tyre run sees Rins top damp FP3

Ecstar Suzuki factory MotoGP rider Alex Rins stuck a soft slick tyre in his GSX-RR in the closing stages of FP3 to top the morning FP3 session in a largely washed out free practice session in Aragon.

Early morning rain left the track damp and reports of spots of rain in the session left the track in a horrible mixed condition, leaving multiple riders to sit out the session, with far more to lose than gain.

Whilst nobody improved in the session, it was Rins who ended up topping the session. Only completing one lap in damp conditions, Rins stuck a set of soft slick tyres on for two laps and topped the session by 1.079 seconds from Maverick Vinales. Despite topping the session, Rins will still have to make his way through Q1.

Mika Kallio was third as he begins his six-race stint as KTM’s Johann Zarco replacement, with Franco Morbidelli fourth and rookie pair Miguel Oliveira and Pecco Bangaia fifth and sixth respectively.

Valentino Rossi was seventh with Bradley Smith, Fabio Quartararo and Joan Mir rounding out the top ten.

Despite not posting a flying lap, Marc Marquez was the overall combined free practice fastest man Marc Marquez.
