MotoGP Assen: One of the toughest races I've ever experienced – McPhee

Petronas Sprinta Racing Honda rider John McPhee calling today’s Dutch Moto3 race, ‘one of the toughest races’ he has experienced after battling through from twentieth to a stunning fifth in Assen.

A crash in qualifying one left McPhee starting from down on the seventh row of the grid, but after fighting his way through and joining the leading group, McPhee fought through late to secure a stunning top five finish.

Whilst unexpected, McPhee explained that he had good pace when riding alone, but his work was cut out in the opening laps.

"That was one of the toughest races I've ever experienced,” said the Scotsman.

“Throughout the weekend I had been able to set a good pace riding alone, but the crash in qualifying forced me to start from far back on the grid.

"The first laps were very crazy, with a lot of riders doing risky manoeuvres. Reaching the front group was very difficult, but finishing in P5 is a great result that gains me some positions in the standings.

“I can't wait to get to Sachsenring. Last year I got on the podium there, so I'm looking forward to the race."
